2013-2014: What a Wonderful Year for UE Hillel!!!!

During the 2013-2014 academic year, UE Hillel was under the joint leadership of previous presidents Sara Gerlach and Jackie Kossoff.  As Hillel members are some of the most involved students on UE's campus, our annual Chanukah Party and Passover Seder were the two highlights of our year!  Both events were extremely successful and, of course, the food was AMAZING & FREE for all in attendance!  We also hosted a Hamantaschen Cooking Event for our members in celebration of Purim!

Spring 2013 Semester in Review!!!!

1) Congrats to our new President, Sara Gerlach!!!!!  Sara began her term in January 2013!

2)  We all made Hamentashen for Purim!!!!

3) We also had a Passover Seder!!!!  30 people attended and we all had a blast!  I mean, who doesn't love matzah, right?  (It's our background, so obviously we do!  LOL)
Unfortunately, we don't have any photos that can be uploaded to this blog at the moment, but if we find some they will be posted later.  Just know we all had fun and there was great food!

Can't wait for the Fall!!!!

This year in review:
Hello!  Or should I say Shalom?  I'm Jackie, UE Hillel's current president, and I just thought I'd post a few highlights from this past school year now that we have this blog.
In the beginning of last fall, members of Hillel were invited as guests to attend Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur dinners (before the fasting began, of course) at the home of a local Jewish couple, Mr. and Mrs. Abrams. We had wonderful homecooked meals and attended services at the temple afterwards.
Toward the end of the semester, we threw a Chanukah party that was open to the entire campus (and our friends from USI), which was a great success.  Not only did those in attendance enjoy the latkes we made, but they were also able to learn about the history of the holiday through our fun and educational presentation.  The Maccabeats made it easy for us: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSJCSR4MuhU
Second semester, we took it easy.  We had a Hillel bonding event for Purim, equipped with hamantaschen and a Havdalah service.  We look forward to holding even more events next year!!!!
